According to The Southwest Museum of Engineering, Communication and Computation (SMECC), more than 90 percent of American homes own a microwave oven. This is not a surprising figure. Microwaves are used for everything from heating up vegetables to partaking in popcorn.

5 Reasons Not to Use a Microwave Oven!

1. Microwaves Zap Food Nutrition
As we learned above, water and other molecules found in food are excited and rub together to create the friction needed to heat food. This process also changes the molecular structure of the food and diminishes nutrient content. A fantastic, nutritious meal has now been turned into a bunch of stuff the body cannot process correctly.

2. Microwaves Destroy Breastmilk and the Vitamin B-12
According to a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, microwaving foods like raw beef, pork, or milk result in a 30 to 40 percent loss in the B-12 vitamin. This is a tremendous loss of a vitamin that is used to promote nerve, blood cell and DNA health.

Also, heating up breast milk in the microwave has been shown to increase harmful bacteria growth. Findingspublished in Pediatrics found that breast milk heated at higher temperatures were 18 times more likely to have greater E Coli growth than samples that were not microwaved.

3. Microwaves Create Carcinogens
Plastic + microwaves + food = carcinogens. The Russian government issued a warning about microwaves and the harm they do to the body and the environment. The plastic containers often used to heat up food in a microwave release harmful chemicals and toxins like BPA, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), benzene, toluene, and xylene.

4. Microwaves Can Change the Makeup of the Blood
According to a Swiss clinical study, the blood of individuals that consumed microwaved milk and vegetables had decreased the number of red blood cells. Also, white blood cell levels increased along with cholesterol. Although a small study, about eight people, it brings up some troubling results.

5. Microwaves Can Affect the Heart
In a study conducted by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University in Ontario, Canada, Havas found that the radiation emitted by a microwave affect both the heart rate and the heart rate variability. Although changes are within federal safety guidelines, the effects are immediate and dramatic. If one regularly eats microwaved food and he or she experiences an irregular heartbeat or any chest pain, they should stop.

The studies are clear on the point that microwaving food is not safe.
