Plus, it\u2019s ready in just 7 minutes!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s just a few of the benefits:<\/p>\n<p><b>Oats and Apples <\/b>Both oats and apples contain soluble fiber, which may help ward off illness by supporting the immune system. In particular, research shows that beta glucan, a type of fiber found in oats, significantly enhances the human immune system response to bacterial infection.<\/p>\n<p>A clinical human trial Published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00394-013-0492-z\/fulltext.html\"><i>European Journal of Nutrition<\/i><\/a><b>, <\/b>based on a double-blind, randomized study in healthy subjects, has shown that beta-glucan helps prevent colds, improves symptoms and increases the body\u2019s potential to defend against invading pathogens.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cinnamon <\/b>can balance your blood sugar and has antibacterial and antifungal properties.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cardamom <\/b>has been used in traditional Eastern medicine to treat a variety of health concerns, from digestive issues to respiratory problems.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cloves <\/b>naturally freshen breath and aid in soothing many digestive issues.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the recipe:<\/p>\n<p><b>Warming Winter Oatmeal<\/b><\/p>\n<p>(serves 1)<\/p>\n<p><i>Ingredients<\/i><\/p>\n<p>1 cup water<\/p>\n<p>3 cloves<\/p>\n<p>3 cardamom pods<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd cup rolled oats (5-minute kind)<\/p>\n<p>1 apple or pear, diced or sliced<\/p>\n<p>\u00bc tsp. cinnamon<\/p>\n<p>2 Tbsp. raw walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)<\/p>\n<p>2 tsp. shredded coconut<\/p>\n<p>2-3 tsp. ground flax<\/p>\n<p>salt, to taste (optional)<\/p>\n<p><i>Instructions<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Add water, cloves, and cardamom to a pot, and bring to a boil.<\/p>\n<p>Add oats, apple or pear, and cinnamon, cover, and bring down to medium low.
